Aphotic (pink) by Bea Bonafini
This limited-edition lithograph work was produced in collaboration with Litgrafia Bulla in Rome, the oldest lithography workshop in the world, which is now run by two sisters. The workshop regularly reaches out to artists to collaborate on experimental limited editions. For this collaboration, they experimented with lithography on cork - a material Bea Bonafini uses often for her paintings, favouring its softness, granular texture and versatility, but also because the cork tree is kept alive when it's harvested.
The title of the work refers to the deepest recesses of the ocean or other bodies of water, which are too deep for any light to filter through. It's in this space of the unknown that Bea imagines shapeshifting species intertwining.
Each edition is slightly different. The surface is hand-coloured with a pochoir technique. The frames are bespoke, and are part of the work.
Lithography on cork, framed.
64cm (h) x 50cm (w) x 5cm (d)
Edition of 7
Purchase can also be arranged by contacting Babe Station founder Millie at milliehwalton@hotmail.com
